Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program Waiting List

All applications received from June 12-18, 2019 were placed in a random drawing for 2,000 available spots on MPHA’s Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program waiting list. 

The lottery was completed on July 15. You will need to log in to www.waitlistcheck.com to view your status with the username and password you used to apply.

Active: You were selected in the lottery, and you are on the list for Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher with MPHA.

Inactive: You were not selected in the lottery, and you are NOT on the list for Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher with MPHA.

Important: If you lose or forget your User ID and/or Password and are unable to answer the security questions to retrieve your information, you will lose access to the WaitListCheck system. Losing access to the system will not affect your status on the Waiting List. Applicants who have been selected will also receive a mailed letter from MPHA to the address they provided. 

Please do not call MPHA to ask if your application was selected in the lottery. 

FAQs

A: After the application period closes, 2,000 applications will be randomly selected for placement on the list. It does not matter when you apply during the application period. Every application has an equal chance of being selected for the lottery. MPHA will award 95 percent of waiting list placements to applicants who live, work, or attend school in Minneapolis. The remaining five percent of waiting list placements will be awarded to any other applicant. 

A: Keep the receipt you receive by email after you submitted your application and remember the username and password you created. Soon after the application period closes, we will post status information to www.WaitlistCheck.com. You will use the username and password you created with your application to check your status. If your application is marked “ACTIVE,” you are on the waiting list. If your application is marked “INACTIVE”, you were not selected in the lottery and are not on the waiting list. 

A: Unless you have requested a reasonable accommodation based upon a qualified disability or the need for language assistance, you must check www.WaitlistCheck.com for your status. 

Go to www.waitlistcheck.com and click on Forgot Password. Then enter your user ID (it will be your email or phone number) to reset your password.

Your name was not selected in the random lottery.

There was nothing you did to not qualify. Placement on the list was done through a random selection.

You will receive a letter from MPHA in the next two weeks about the process moving forward.

You have applied for the waiting list. You may wait several years for assistance. Final eligibility is determined when your name is selected from the waiting list.

Wait times depend on many variables out of our control. You may wait several years for a voucher. There will be 2,000 names randomly placed on this list. Your wait time will depend on where you are placed on the list and funding availability.
