MPHA is HUD high performer and an industry leader in innovative partnerships. Last year alone, the agency earned its highest ever PHAS physical inspection score, secured more than $10 million in new state and local funding, and opened its nation-leading modular family housing development. But none of these accomplishments would be possible if not for the dedicated team enabling MPHA’s success. And in the new year, MPHA is creating new career opportunities across a variety of departments including property management, maintenance and trades, development, and direct program services to help build on the prior year’s achievements.

The agency offers a robust benefits package including: paid sick and vacation leave, health and dental benefits, 401a with generous match, HRA and FSA, tuition reimbursement, life insurance, disability insurance, 12 paid holidays, and a variety of other voluntary benefits.

Additionally, the agency boasts a team that is mission-driven and makes a positive impact in their community every day. The agency is committed to cultivating a culture of belonging through ongoing DEI initiatives and proudly partners with a range of unions representing its talented team members. In fact, more than 80 percent of MPHA team members are represented by a labor union. In 2023, union negotiations resulted in increased employee allowance and additional work time flexibility.

When Laura Dykema started as a temporary secretary at 19-years-old, she couldn’t have imagined she’d end up as leading the department. Through career development from the agency, supportive co-workers, and two decades of working for the agency, Laura is the director of the Planning and Development team.

“I took advantage of MPHA’s tuition reimbursement program to help pay for college expenses,” said Laura Dykema, Director of Planning and Development at MPHA. “I also took advantage of agency-paid for trainings such as architectural drafting and drafting software. I worked very hard along the way and still do every day, but I wouldn’t be where I’m at without the support of the family that is MPHA.”

Charles Wilson was initially attracted to his operating engineering role at MPHA for the retirement benefits. Now, after more than five years maintaining the agency’s buildings’ heating and cooling systems, Charles is building his retirement savings.

“As an older adult without retirement funds, I was drawn to the retirement contributions—both the match and required contributions,” said Charles Wilson, Preventative Maintenance Technician at MPHA.

Working with the agency for nearly two years, Chad Biggers is motivated by the deep impact his work in the Housing Choice Voucher department has on providing stability for people in Minneapolis.

“The reason I enjoy working at MPHA is because of the impact the agency has on this city that I call home,” said Chad Biggers, Community Engagement Specialist of HCV at MPHA.

“At the end of the day, the work of MPHA is more than just housing, and it’s more than just vouchers. And I live in this city, and I love that I get to be a part of making it better.”
